The Mission
AI Mily was founded by Mily, a nurse who witnessed firsthand how language barriers impacted the quality of care for Non-English Speaking Background (NESB) patients. Throughout her nursing career, Mily saw how patients struggled to communicate their needs, often leading to delays, misunderstandings, and poorer health outcomes.One day, Mily had an idea: What if she started accompanying elderly Chinese patients to their medical appointments, using her medical knowledge to help with translation and advocacy? While this made a meaningful impact, she quickly realised that as one person, there was only so much she could do.That’s when inspiration struck. What if there were an "AI Mily" that could carry forward her vision, that is to help NESB patients get their healthcare needs met, just like everyone else? And so, AI Mily was born: a medically specialised interpreter, designed to bridge the gap in communication between healthcare providers and patients from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.Mily’s goal was simple: to ensure that no patient is left behind because of a language barrier.
The Team
We’re a team of clinicians, engineers, and immigrants who’ve all experienced the challenges of language barriers in healthcare — either personally or through our work. AI Mily is led by a registered nurse, built with the help of a project-driven engineer and a speech AI expert, and guided by a shared mission: to make communication easier, faster, and safer for everyone. We're building AI Mily to save physicians time, help patients feel seen and understood, and reduce avoidable complications, prolonged stays, and preventable readmissions caused by language barriers.
